Anti-Taliban graffiti in Karachi for first time in eight years
KARACHI: For the first time in eight years, anti-Taliban graffiti has surfaced in Karachi. It is also noteworthy that it has been signed off as SMP which stands for Sipah-e-Mohammad, a banned outfit. The SMP went underground also went underground eight years ago.
The graffiti appeared on main MA Jinnah Road, a central artery, outside a building from colonial times, Khaliqdina Hall. It was also seen at Lasbella Bridge in Liaquatabad Town. ‘Taliban Murdabad’ [Down with the Taliban] and ‘Shiaiat ka qatl-e-aam na Manzoor’ [The killing of Shias is rejected] and in English ‘Back Shias, full power, Super power’ are the phrases that appeared. One was against a particular religious scholar who appears on TV.
According to the official red book of the Special Investigations Group of the Federal Investigation Agency, 29 out of a total of 162 most-wanted terrorists in Pakistan are from the SMP with head money worth Rs 13.6 million.
